Dinosaur Fleece Hat by Negai-Boshi Dinosaur Fleece Hat by Negai-Boshi
Made for and modeled by my sister, ~wet-fuzz-rocks.

She saw me browsing the hats on dA and insisted I make her a dinosaur one. There are a couple designs like this out there, but I basically just made it up as I went along. No pattern, just cutting shapes that seemed about right. Which is why it's a little sloppy, but still pretty adorable. <3

Made of fleece with felt for the teeth and eyes.

I love making these hats, I wish I could take my sewing machine to school with me. >.< Not really room in the dorms, though.

This is quite awesome. I'm curious as to how you made the tail! I want to make a dinosaur hat for my sister too, but I'm stuck on the template for the tail...it'd be awesome if you helped me out

<3<3 I'm glad you like it!!

I sort of just make it up as I go along when I sew, so I don't have an actual template, but I can explain how I did it for you.

If you're doing it like me, your standard hat would have 4 curved triangle shapes to it. I took my pattern for that and traced just one curved side of it, then extended the straight base of the shape to about 16 inches, thought that length could be changed based on how long you want the tail. Then I just sketched out a curved line connecting that base to the point, so ending up with a triangle that's stretched out on only one side. You need two of those and 2 of the standard triangle.
Then you'll need a bit of fabric for the underside of the tail. I really just cute out a long triangle that looked like it would fit. Probably about 8 inches wide, then about 14 inches long, to fit with my other shapes. I ended up trimming out a bit of extra fabric when I finished sewing it all together, though.
The trickiest part is sewing the rim on with the extra fabric hanging off the end, but if you do it slowly and carefully, it should work out fine.

I hope that's helpful. Sorry I don't have an actual pattern.

It is adorable!
Ah, I work by templates, I love everything to be neat and everything, and I like to have the ability to replicate it exactly :)
That sounds awesome, I will definitely try it out! I only want a teeny tiny tail, so a couple of inches should do the trick.

That's very helpful, I haven't had anyone else tell me! Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Haha, most people are like that, I think. I use templates if I have them, but otherwise I find it easier to just visualize it as I go. Not the most practical method, but it works for me. Hopefully you can make one that'll work for you. <3 Glad to help! Good luck. <3
